Mike Humphries-The first place story, "How to be a Game Warden in Six Easy Months," takes the viewer through the "boot camp" of becoming a Texas game warden. The editor skillfully showed that process with a pace that made the story feel half as long as its actual run time. Through excellent use of natural sound, good shot selection and several "moments," the editor really displayed some good storytelling choices. The editing did not draw attention to itself and that served the story well.
"Swallow Hill" seamlessly told the story of a group of harmonica enthusiasts. What could've been a music video instead displayed intelligence and maturity. The natural sound was excellent and the shot variety and selection was spot on. A fine piece of work.
The editor of "Muddy Buddy" showed us a very unusual race, where participants bike, run and tackle obstacles -- including a huge mud pit -- during the course of the race. The story had a definite beginning, middle and end; and the natural sound, "moments" and shot selection were outstanding.
Overall, the entries in this category were fairly solid. Several displayed some of the same characteristics as the winning pieces. Others could've benefited from some tightening to allow them to tell their stories in a more concise way.

Stephanie Ottjepka-"How To Be A Game Warden In 6 Easy Months" had a simple style to it. It took us through the journey with smart sequencing, good bite choices, a music montage and graphics. The duration of the shots, the selection and the lack
of effects gave this a natural feel. I was engaged by the moments that showed the trainer getting angry, the girl falling asleep in class and the story about the cadet who learns to swim better. You gained something from watching this. I liked the choice of music and the subtle way emotion was evoked.
"Swallow Hill" was just the right length. It weaved the music into the story beautifully and injected humor in a way that didn't feel forced.
